Welcome to the home of the U.S. Navel Observatory... the nation's foremost center for umbilical research. We hope to take omphaloskepsis ("contemplating the navel", or "navel watching") to a new level of perfection in our society.
Just about everyone has a navel.
It plays an important role in our earliest life (its the point at which the umbilical cord was attached - which during gestation provided each of us the nourishment needed to survive), in fashion (our Japanese cousins have even named a navel-baring fashion trend "heso dashi", meaning "navel fashion"), in love-play, in art, in food (such as tortellini, the Italian pasta made in the image of the female navel)... even in mythology (ancient Greeks worshipped a stone they thought to be "the navel of the world").
We hope you will join us as we explore the importance of the belly button in the world's culture... just follow the links below!
